Doncaster is situated on the East Coast Mainline that is used by trains traveling from London Kings Cross to Leeds and Yorkshire, Newcastle and North East England, Edinburgh Aberdeen and Inverness. Cross Country trains traveling between Scotland, North East England and South West England also pass through Doncaster along with Cleethorpes to Manchester Airport trains and a whole host of Northern Rail services making Doncaster a very busy and important railway station
The East Coast Main Line gets a Mention in my
bus ride from Berwick Upon Tweed to Holy Island (Lindisfarne)

All the trains we have just seen has been in the space of less than 10 minutes giving some idea of how busy Doncaster Station can be

As we pull out of Adwick we pass the old Adwick station

As we pull out of Adwick we pass the old Adwick station. This station opened as Adwick in 1866 was renamed Adwick Le Street and Carcroft in 1867 was renaned Carcroft and Adwick Le Street in 1880 and closed on the 6th of November 1967. The new Adwick Station we have just called at was opened on the 11th October 1993

Gaining speed as we head away from South Elmsall. In this shot we are passing under what in days gone by was the main railway line from Sheffield to York but is now barely used by passenger trains. Just south of this bridge though the line we are passing under is still the main Sheffield to Leeds line via Moorthorpe. We are about to pass South Kirkby Junction where the line from Sheffield to Leeds joins the line we are on
