Yorkshire Coastliner Transdev

A bus ride on Yorkshire Coastliner from Leeds to York.

From Leeds bus station there is a regular bus service to York and the Yorkshire coast that runs from early morning to late evening. It is Yorkshire Coastliner operated by a company called Transdev. It has long distance and local travel all rolled into one. At one minute you will be on a fast road with all the feel of an express coach and the next passing through a housing estate with all the feel of a local bus. Having started in one of the UK's main cities the routes pass through some beautiful countryside, historic city and towns to Yorkshires famous seaside resorts.

Through most of the day there are 4 busses an hour from Leeds to York. From York 2 of those busses carry on to Malton giving 2 busses an hour between Leeds and Malton. At Malton which is also a Coastliner depot the routes split. One bus continues on to Scarborough giving an hourly service between Leeds and Scarborough. The other bus continues towards Thornton Le Dale where some terminate giving an hourly service between Leeds and Thornton Le Dale some of these busses then continue to Whitby giving a more limited but still reasonable service from Leeds to Whitby. The busses to Bridlington are very limited and run in addition to the other services so at some points of the day there is an even better service on the frequent parts of the route than described above. This all makes for a very impresive timetable.

Journey times are about 3 to 3 hours 20 from Leeds to the coast.

Leeds guided busways unique to West Yorkshire.

Traveling along the A64 into the suburbs of Leeds. A local bus can be seen using a guided busway. These are unique to West Yorkshire built to help busses avoid traffic congestion. Basically a glorified bus lane. In fairness they are very effective. It has to be said Coastliner does not seem to have the ability to use them though.

Approaching York city centre. An entrance to the walled city of York at Micklegate can be seen ahead. The bus needless to say takes a left to the railway station and enters the walled city just after at a modern entrance.
