Firgrove Mill engine 1907 Manchester Museum of Science and Industry

Static Steam engine
This is the Firgrove Mill Engine built in 1907 by McNaught's of Rochdale.
Technical inovations on this engine made it much more efficient than the beam engine it replaced.
It drove a factory producing flannelette sheets.
It was delivered by barge on the Rochdale Canal as both its makers and the mill where it was used were on the canal.
The Rochdale Canal is mentioned in my
A walk from the White House pub Blackstone Edge above Littleborough to Hebden Bridge
and my
bus ride from Manchester to Rochdale
It was in use till 1970
