The Imperial Touring Car

Imperial Touring car Museum of Science and Industry Manchester

Although we are in what is principally an aircraft museum as we can see here there are also other exhibits.
This is an Imperial Touring Car
It was made in 1904 possibly in the former Manchester Corporation Tramway Company's horse tram depot in Rusholme.
It was made by the Imperial Autocar Manufacturing Company Limited that was set up in 1900 by Billy Turner a keen cyclist they produced cars until 1912 The cars were hand made They used bought in components including French made De Dion Bouton engines. After 1912 they concentrated on garage services and bodywork. Turner died in 1947.
It is the only known surving Imperial Car and has a 6 horsepower engine
